The moving effect

The key candidates job hunting at the moment may not be the unemployed, with recruitment agencies find the amount of unhappy workers is on increase.

A report done by training provider lifetime showed that only 6% of those asked were happy in their working environment. The remaining 94% were unhappy due to either being in a job that was not challenging enough to wanting to set up their own business or becoming self employed. The main prevention to this was the recession and that in these challenging times it is deemed better to have stability rather than take risks.

The worry is that with so many unhappy workers then standards and production levels fall, something that would not help the economy’s recovery. The moving effect is therefore an area where recruitment agencies can help and of course find the right job for the right candidate and with that job satisfaction, something I believe is extremely important.

Snow and temps are not a good combination

The reality of the situation for many temping recruitment agencies is that this time of the year, although brings smiles on the faces of many children is quite an annoying period for the industry.

I can only imagine how much income has been lost due to temps not making it into work, this could have detrimental effect on employment agencies that are already running on the bare minimum.

Sectors such as healthcare recruitment agencies and construction agencies would have majority of their business based around temps and these blizzard conditions must be a drain on their resources.

I suppose many temping agencies will wish everyone a Merry Christmas and New Year but would be happier to see the back of these weather conditions.

Finance jobs are still up

A report provided by financial recruitment agency Morgan Mckinley showed that they still show 9% more jobs in the month of November compared to last November.

This is good news for recruitment agencies but is does come with an air of caution. The stats also showed that there has been a drop in vacancies when compared to the previous Month and that there was a 3% rise in candidates looking to change their job.

The concerns of mass debt is still lingering for many financial services and a concern with such uncertainty is that no one is fully committed to expanding, however the fact that an increase in vacancies has occurred is undoubtedly good news.

Merry Christmas you’re fired

Recruitment agencies should be prepared for a strange Christmas, usually a time when there is little candidate generation it seems this year will be different.

The coalition government has made cut’s that will no doubt reduce staff in many parts of the public sector, the estimated number of cuts predicted over this present period is expected to reach the 100,000 mark. This is quite astonishing statistic when you consider this is the Christmas holidays and the question undoubtedly being asked is why not wait till the new year? There is however a reason for this, local authorities must have their austerity reports in place by 31st March 2011. The problem here is that they must also give 90 days notice of any job cuts. This therefore means job cuts must be announced before New Year’s Day.

My problem with this is that of course this 90 day rule can be changed and even if the inevitable job cuts will occur, I can see no loss by waiting to disclose this in January. The other issue I have with these massive public sector job cuts is that the presumption of these job cuts will be offset by the increase in private sector jobs, I definitely believe this is a big IF and I believe employment agencies will have to work as hard as ever to find where these jobs exist.

Recruitment Agencies listed in Fast Track 100

11 Recruitment agencies were listed in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100, this is a list of the fastest growing private companies in the UK.

The fact that this is the case in such troublesome times is a very good indication that recruitment agencies can be prosperous in difficult times, more interesting is that 3 of these agencies are in fact healthcare recruitment agencies, Pathology Group, Mayday Healthcare and Team 24, due to this being a difficult area to supply at present.

Others in the list include:

Green Park

Next Ventures

Nicoll Curtin Techonolgy

Timothy James Consulting

Empriric Solutions

JJ Fox

Morgan Law Recruitment

In the coming years there should be more of an affect from the reduction in public spending, but would rather focus on the fact that with the right business strategy there are markets out there that employment agencies can service well.
