IT Contractors on the up!!!

Powerchex a pre-employment screening firm have found that the number of IT Contractors receiving job offers in February compared to January is on the way up in certain sectors.

Financial Institutions: +11%
Insurance Companies: +16%
Hedge Funds: +6%

It was not all positive though, with investment banks showing a drop of 51%. However there are signs, that IT Contractors is a good option in this current climate. It has always been said that in a recession, temp workers offer a real benefit. They are not tied contractually like a permanent member of staff and can be used sporadically when the business requires their services.

Managing director of Powerchex added that the calibre of candidates that now exist as IT Contractors is of a much higher standard, with many losing their permanent jobs; many have turned to contracting as a short term solution.

For anyone who is looking at IT contracting, it is of course good advice to speak to IT recruitment agencies that are in the know and also it will be these agencies that will be placing and paying you for the work carried out.

Brent Cross shopping centre, turns into a recruitment centre?

Department of Health (DoH) are looking of ways of increasing the exposure of Social Care. Therefore they are setting up a week long recruitment show at Brent Cross.

People going to the show will be able to speak to employers and to those actually working as social workers to understand the true nature of this career, the rewards it brings and how you can progress in such a career.

A DoH spokeswoman spoke about the benefits this type of job makes to the community and that carrying out simple tasks can make a big difference. Jobs range from home care assistants, residential care homes and also working with the elderly.

The nationwide campaign started on TV last month and the event at Brent Cross will run from today till Sunday.

If you want to find out more about Social Care you should also consider talking to Social Care Recruitment Agencies. These agencies have a deep understanding of how someone can forge a career in Social Care and can give you an insight into potential employers and pay related issues.

European Parliament says Britain should work less

The working time directive that states that we should work no more than 48 hours a week and at present we can choose to opt out from this agreement came under close scrutiny in Brussels.

In a period of mass unemployment the Members of European Parliament (MEP) have already agreed to remove the opt out but the council is so far resisting such a move.

This removal could have huge ramifications, with many people in Britain choosing to opt out of this time directive. One such sector is doctors, with junior doctors working 56 hours a week and currently able to keep to their target of operating on patients within 18 weeks from being seen by their GP. The removal of the opt out agreement will mean junior doctors have to reduce their working hours to 48, therefore hugely increasing waiting times.

Representatives of the NHS believe the effect of reducing hours will be detrimental. Remedy UK even went as far as to say that by doing this it will be like losing 70,000 doctor days per week. The department of health is now considering increasing the number of years before qualifying as a consultant, from 7 years to 9 years.

It does look like the MEPs are intent on removing this opt out agreement, but I do hope that proper diligence has been taken for key areas such as doctors. I think the last thing we need right now is reduction in the level of care in Britain.

I want good news!

It has got to the point where we need to start looking at positives as well as negatives. The bad news has kept coming now for last 6 – 8 months and so I wanted to write a blog that concentrated on some good news that is out there at the moment.

FDM Group has 23% rise in pre-tax profits for 2008
The IT Recruitment Group has announced an increase in profits for 2008 to £5.3 million compared to £4.3million in 2007 and is looking quite strong with its Mountie programme that specialises in placing numerical science graduates.

Capita Group announced 16% increase in profits
Capita group have shown profits before tax of £277.2m for year ending 2008 compared to £238.4m in 2007. The company has secured a number of contracts with a value of £1.24bn and turnover has increased by 18%.

Spring Group announce increase in profits
Spring group pre-tax profits rose to £9.2m in 2008 compared to £8m in 2007. Their continual investment in growth has meant they have opened 4 more offices overseas and they believe their strategy for long term contract work and RPO offering will continue to pay dividends in the future.

It is good to see there is some good news out there and especially some recruitment agencies increasing in size. I hope that this list only continues to grow and in the not so distant future I’m only writing blogs about how the economy is changing for the better.

Stop the new VAT legislation !!!

I don’t know where to begin with this one, however in the recruitment world there is never usually a united cry for action and in this instance it has been emphatic.

It is beyond comprehension why the government has yet pulled the plug on the new VAT legislations that will hit employment businesses in April 2009. From this date all employment businesses will have to charge full VAT on their temporary staff and not just on the commission element.

A number of top profile agencies have condemned this action as ridiculous in this current climate, going as far as to say, the government could be hindering one of the main aspects that can rejuvenate the economy. With many arguing the point that in a time of recession it is the temps that allow for companies to use additional staff without the expenditure of a full time member and temps allows more job seekers to get some sort of income. The belief of charging VAT on the full rate means that many companies could be concerned with this kind of outlay and for public entities such as the NHS they will not even be able to recoup their VAT by off setting it and so could be even more damning.

Projections of over 150,000 temps to lose their jobs have been voiced. With only a few weeks to go before the decision can be over turned, many still hope the government will listen to reason and if not stop the new legislation then at least delay the implementation.

Welcome to gotorecruitment.co.uk

Ajobcy.com is now changing its name. No flashy adverts like Norwich Union and without Bruce Willis telling us his name is not really Bruce but never the less an important name change in the development of this website.

Why has ajobcy.com changed its name to gotorecruitment.co.uk?
We wanted the name of the website to have more representation of what the website can do. We felt ajobcy.com was maybe appropriate for the 1st version of this site but now we have developed and improved we believe the site out grew the name.

What can the website do now, that it did not do before?
There is so much more functionality, a fully interactive recruitment agency directory service, a job seekers section to distribute CV and manage jobs received and a reporting management system, to name but a few.

What is the aim of gotorecruitment.co.uk?
The aim is quite simple and hopefully the strap line reflects that, gotorecruitment.co.uk – for all your recruitment needs. This is the first website of its kind where you can find, select, compare and manage all your recruitment requirements in one place.

Could you give some examples?
Yes of course,

Employers might have these questions:

I need to find relevant recruitment agencies – gotorecruitment.co.uk
I want to compare quotes – gotorecruitment.co.uk
I have a set budget in mind and wonder if recruitment agencies can find suitable candidates with that fee – gotorecruitment.co.uk
I’m already using a PSL but would like to manage it better – gotorecruitment.co.uk
I want to receive and manage candidates online – gotorecruitment.co.uk

Jobseekers might have these questions:

I need to find recruitment agencies that deal with my sector – gotorecruitment.co.uk
I want to select the agencies that see my CV – gotorecruitment.co.uk
I want to manage all my agencies under one roof and store all job specs – gotorecruitment.co.uk
I want to send different CV layouts for different types of roles – gotorecruitment.co.uk
I wish to call or email an agency direct but don’t have their details – gotorecruitment.co.uk

I could of course go on for ages, but I think you get the general gist.

It all sounds exciting, but what next in terms of marketing?
Well for jobseekers we already have a large internet presence and for Employers we have a team in house that is actively selling gotorecruitment.co.uk, which is quite easy to do as it is free for any Employer or Jobseeker to use.

So is there no charge for Employers or Jobseekers, how do you make any money?
It is true we do not charge any Employer or Jobseeker for using this website as we believe for this website to be effective it has to be free for the user. What we request is a small fee for a recruitment agency to be listed under the appropriate heading for 12 months.

It is quite apparent that gotorecruitment.co.uk dares to be innovative in its approach, with a genuine understanding of recruitment. It is an effective tool for anyone wishing to use recruitment agencies.
